Pat Conroy was born on October 26, 1945 in Atlanta, Georgia, United States to an American military family of Colonel Donald Conroy of United States Marine Corps. Being the eldest of seven offspring’s born to Colonel Donald Conroy, Pat Conroy had a much troubled childhood owing to his father’s obnoxious gestures towards them.
Having graduated from The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina, Pat Conroy would go on to teach English at Beaufort, South Carolina before embarking on a eventful expedition in the sphere of English Literature. It was only in 1976 when his first novel titled The Great Santini was published and subsequently paved the way for ushering in of an era of much celebrated English literature works viz. “The Water Is Wide”, “The Great Santini”, “The Lords of Discipline”, “The Prince of Tides”.
